The Saga Of The Passage To Norway
A Sailing Holiday Amongst Norways Fjords And Islands
Off the beaten track on a sailing holiday in Norway.
This is a voyage in two distinct parts.
In some ways this voyage has everything, a challenging sea voyage followed by some relaxed cruising as we sail 700 miles north from Ipswich
to the beautiful town of Alesund in Norway.
This could also be the most challenging voyage we will be undertaking
in 2012. It is essential that you have a good level
of fitness and agility but you do not necessarily need to have sailed before. You will be part
of a watch system the whole time we are on passage to
Norway. The passage is expected to take 5 to 8 days.
From Ipswich to Norway
The route we take depends entirely on the weather but usually we sail up the east coast of the UK and then cross over to Norway. There are lots of oil and gas fields( on both the UK and Norwegian side) scattered in the north sea to negotiate but generally very little shipping apart from around the mouth of the Humber and a few fishing vessels.
Mostly we have the whole horizon all to ourselves until we see land.
The area from Floro to Alesund
From Floro to Alesund we will be in another world after our sea voyage. Here the sailing is mostly in sheltered water with majestic scenery. We don't quite have midnight sun but the days are long and there is little tide so there are few restrictions on when we can sail.
We have discovered some beautiful places on this stretch of the coast that are difficult to visit any other way than by boat. The delightful 'garden of eden' island of Silde is just one of them. We also hope to have time to visit one of the beautiful fjords just south of Alesund where the cruise ships don't go and Trinovante has never visited before.
Alesund
Alesund was destroyed by fire in 1904 and rebuilt in the art nouveau style. On a narrow peninsula with a backdrop of massive snow capped mountains it's very much a sea town.
All voyage notes refer only to possible
itineraries - where we sail, passage lengths and the
places we call into will be entirely dependent on the
wind and weather at the time.
Everyone can get a discount on their sailing holiday.
In an effort to keep prices as low for you as we can we give you a discount if you pay us by bank transfer (or, for your balance payment due when you arrive onboard by bank transfer or cash) this saves us administrative costs which we pass on to you.
You can of course pay us by credit or debit card or cheque but then you need to pay the non discounted price in brackets.
So it's that simple - pay by bank transfer - get a discount! |
